It was a cold November morning--as the bird season wears on it will get a lot colder--when I arrived at Bosque del Apache just before sunrise. There still weren't that many cranes in residence, but there were a few feeding near the "flight deck." I didn't have much time to set up before they started that bizarre noise they make just before they take flight. Then they were gone, searching for their feeding spot for the day. I hope you enjoy!

After spending decades under fluorescent lights in cubicles, offices and semiconductor clean rooms, I escaped. Throughout those years, at every opportunity, I fled to the mountains or to the ocean so that I could feel the sun on my face, breathe fresh air and bask in the glories of nature. I climbed mountains and dove on reefs, always overburdened with too much camera equipment.
